Immerse in the rhythmic splendour of ~

Tempest sea , where every element serves to mesmerise, be it the warmly glimering reflections, that enigmatic glow from deep beneath the waves, the uncanny detailing of the ship itself, complete with a splash of crowning red, or those specked whites of gulls offering both senses of scale and movement... it is a piece that is entirely brimming with transporting rapture. And if you think the artist's relationship with the subject matter ends here, you are sorely mistaken; their entire gallery is teeming with dedications to the sea. Please enjoy. (

I was looking through oil-paintings, as I recently started learning to use them (having never painted before)
I do wonder though, how do you do these kinds of paintings? Do you do one layer, let it dry for very long, paint one layer on top of that etc. Or do you paint on top of layers when they're still wet?
Thanks a lot, and great work!
I have featured this work in my latest journal entry. You can take a look at it here: [link]
